Simmer Pro recipes are custom post types within WordPress.

You can assign a title, URL, category and other similar features to recipes, plus other unique tools like ingredients, instructions, nutrition, and important recipe info and automatic SEO formatting, too.

Use the title and address fields to choose keywords that target your content and as a result enhance your SEO for those target words or phrases.

Use your recipe description for any type of content, including media, links and other formatting, other plugins, or even basic HTML.

Your recipe excerpt is automatically generated from your description, but you can control the excerpt and create a manual one too by using the Excerpt panel in the recipe editor. This excerpt is displayed above embedded and single recipes to include notes or other important references about the recipe.

This feature includes tools for:

  • Amounts
  • Measurements (for custom measurements, skip directly to the ingredient description)
  • Descriptions
  • Formatting for links, bold, and italics in descriptions
  • Sub-headings
  • Bulk add tool for large chunks of pasted text

Ingredients can be automatically sorted through drag-and-drop in the recipe editor for quick, effective editing. To change the Ingredients heading listed above go to Settings > Simmer and edit the label.

Recipe categories connect similar recipes and easily build collections of recipe content. Categories can be broken up into parent and child categories, but we suggest choosing one category per recipe maximum.

The keyword field can be used for additional labels that weren't able to make it as the primary category name.

Your blog or website’s category address can be found in Settings > Simmer in your WordPress admin.

Link to categories from your WordPress menus to place recipes within your primary or other noticeable navigation for maximum engagement impact. Individual categories or your entire /recipe-library can be included here.

Recipe Information

Recipe information is displayed above and below your recipe ingredients and instructions depending on the relevance.

  • Prep Time
  • Cook Time
  • Total Time
  • Yield
  • Cuisine
  • Source
  • Video
  • Keywords

Each tool is automatically formatted for SEO including your recipe video.

The keywords for a recipe are placed below the optional video to focus on readability for search engines and other machine-reading platforms instead of regular, human readers.

The nutrition section of recipes lets creators manually enter precise nutrition data for their recipes.

Manual recipe nutrition allows better design and placement within the Simmer recipe layout in addition to better opportunities for advanced customizations. For example, a recipe calorie count or service size can be uniquely attached to anywhere the recipe title is displayed.

Nutrition fields include:

  • Single Serving Size
  • Total Servings
  • Cooking Method (manual input, suggestions: Frying, Steaming, Boiling, Baking, Sauteing)
  • Calories
  • Sodium
  • Protein
  • Unsaturated Fat
  • Total Carbohydrate
  • Total Fat
  • Trans Fat
  • Sugar
  • Added Sugar
  • Dietary Fiber
  • Saturated Fat
  • Cholesterol

Front-end developers can use the individual helper classes for CSS and front-end control of each nutrition measurement and data point. WordPress developers can use these classes to code custom interfaces for recipe nutrition.
